Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has held “constructive discussion” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Cyclone Ockhi as well as ways to prevent such a natural calamity.
In a tweet, the Congress Parliamentarian from Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala)—one of the worst affected states—said that he met Modi while the prime minister was returning to the national capital after visiting cyclone hit Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Laskhadweep.
“Met PM @narendramodi on his return from Thiruvananthapuram to discuss #CycloneOckhi &raised the issues mentioned in my letter last week,” Tharoor tweeted.
“Appreciate the constructive discussion on how to prevent such a national calamity in the future &look forward to positive outcomes,” he added.
Tamil Nadu and Kerala have sought over Rs.17,500 crore for relief and rehabilitation work as Modi has promised all help when he met the kin of fishermen on Tuesday who went missing after the cyclone hit the southern coast.
More than 70 fishermen from the southern districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in Kerala died in the cyclone while more than 250 remain missing.
