18/July/2018

ays after his 'Hindu Pakistan' comment against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) triggered a major controversy, Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has once again hit out at the ruling party, asking if it is trying to instill aspects of Taliban in Hinduism.

Speaking at a party event in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Tharoor said the BJP is no one to ask him to go to Pakistan.

"They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and hence can't stay in India? Have they started a Taliban in Hindusim?" he asked.

They are asking me to go to Pakistan. Who has given them the right to decide that I am not a Hindu like them and I don't have the right to stay in the country? Have they started a Taliban in Hinduism?: Shashi Tharoor,Congress MP in Thiruvananthapuram (17.7.18)

Shashi Tharoor said the BJP's discourse on 'Hindu rashtra' is very dangerous. "It will destroy the country," he said.

Last week, speaking at another party event in Kerala, Tharoor said the Constitution will be in danger if the BJP is re-elected in 2019 Lok Sabha election.

He said once back in power, the BJP will do everything to insert elements of its 'Hindu rashtra' doctrine in the Constitution. He said that in doing this, India will become a mirror image of Pakistan, which won't be different from a Hindu Pakistan.

Following this the BJP launched a nation-wide campaign against him.

On Monday, members of the BJP's youth wing vandalised Tharoor's office in Thiruvananthapuram by pouring black oil.

The police arrested five people in this regards. They were later released on bail. BJP workers also waved black flags at Shashi Tharoor and shouted slogans against him ahead of an event on Tuesday.
