(a) and (b): A proposal was received from Government of Kerala for financial assistance to the Regional Cancer Centre in Thiruvananthapuram as a State Cancer Institute (SCI) under National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS). The proposal was recommended by the Standing Committee and an amount of Rs. 46.957 crore, as 1st instalment of Government of India share, has been released to the State Government during the financial year 2016-17. (c) to (e): There is no proposal, presently, to consider Regional Cancer Centre (RCC), Thiruvananthapuram, as a National Cancer Institute, since during the 12th Five Year Plan, only one National Cancer Institute (NCI) has been approved, which is being set up at Jhajjar, Haryana. RCC, Thiruvananthapuram, is being assisted as SCI. SCI is mandated to monitor all Cancer related activities in its area while NCI will be apex institution for such activities including research. |
