(a): Twenty one ( 21 ) AIIMS have been announced to be set under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). AIIMS at 6 places viz. Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh are already functional. The State/UT-wise details indicating the present status of these institutions are given in Annexure.


(b): Details of funds during the last three years and current year released by Ministry for setting up of AIIMS are given below:

(c): Yes. Apart from 21 AIIMS which have been announced, proposals for survey have been received from Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Haryana, Karnataka and Kerala. Requests for setting up of AIIMS like Institutions have also been received from Tripura and Mizoram.

(d): Yes. Government plans to set up more AIIMS like institutions in other States of India also in a phased manner depending upon available resources.

Relevance 

The State Government had identified four locations and submitted its proposals for the establishment of AIIMS in 2014. In 2015, the Central Government in 2015 had promised to set up an AIIMS in Kerala. However, to date, there has been no development on this front. The State Government has time and again indicated that there will be no trouble in the acquisition of the land to begin the construction of AIIMS. Moreover, Thiruvananthapuram, a hub of research institutes, is the ideal site for AIIMS and it is imperative that AIIMS is started at the earliest.
