Relevance/ Significance

Accessible India Campaign sought to make 25-50 most important Government buildings in 50 cities across India to be fully accessible by the end of 2017. It also aims at making 50% of all the government buildings of NCT and all the State Capitals fully accessible by December 2018. However, the response of the Ministers shows that the Central Government has not even asked the States to provide reports on the progress made. A total of 1364 Government buildings in NCT and State Capitals were identified to be made fully accessible, however the Centre only has data for 144 central government buildings, which is only 10% of the buildings identified.
