Will the Minister of



 SHIPPING be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government has any proposal to extend the inland waterway from Kollam to Kulachal in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu; 

(b) if so, the details thereof; 

(c) whether the Government has any proposal to develop and modernise the canals of the erstwhile TS canal and if so, the details thereof; and 

(d) the measures taken or proposed to be taken in this regard?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF SHIPPING (SHRI PON. RADHAKRISHNAN) 

(a)&(b): No, Madam. 

(c)&(d): The development of the waterways which have been declared as National Waterways comes under the purview of Central Government. The responsibility of development of waterways other than National Waterways rests with concerned State Government. As TS canal is not a part of a National Waterway, development of this canal rests with the State Government of Kerala.
