be pleased to state:-

(a) the details of loans provided to farmers for planting Jatropha seeds during the last three years and the current year, bank and State-wise, particularly Kerala;
(b) whether the Government has any plan to extend adequate compensation or loan waiver under the Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008 to Jatropha farmers who have been adversely affected by the discontinuation of the scheme and the sale of Jatropha; and
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the steps taken by the Government to rescue the Jatropha farmers in this regard? |

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance (Shri Jayant Sinha)
(a):- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) and State Level Bankers’ Committee, Kerala have informed that they do not have specific information in the matter. However, the Syndicate Bank has informed that they had provided loans to farmers for Jatropa cultivation only in the State of Andhra Pradesh, the year-wise details of which are as follows :-

(b) & (c):- The Debt Waiver and Debt Relief components under Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme, 2008 have already been closed on 30.6.2008 and 30.6.2010 respectively. However, there is no specific proposal under consideration for extending relief to Jatropha farmers. |
