ANSWER |
MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF TEXTILES (SHRI SANTOSH KUMAR GANGWAR)
(a): Yes, Madam,
(b): The Committee recommended for setting up of the Urban Haats is to establish a permanent marketing infrastructure in towns/metropolitan cities to provide direct marketing facilities to the handicraft artisans/handloom weavers & enable them to sell their products round the year to wider targeted audiences/customers.
(c): The main reason of cancellation of 13 Urban Haats including Thiruvananthapuram is due to non available of land which is free from all encumbrances.
(d) & (e): To stop recurrence of cancellation of projects, Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) will take an undertaking from the State Government that the land proposed for Urban Haat is free from all encumbrances before sanction to the project.
