a) whether the Government is aware that larger percentage of trees planted along the National Highways do not survive due to lack of proper mechanism for their care and maintenance, and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government proposes to take any steps for proper care and maintenance of the trees including training and involving of local community in this regard and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government have formulated any plan for involving NGOs in nurturing the plant saplings along the National Highways to increase the survival rate; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) : Casualties of planted saplings are encountered in plantation along the National Highways, due to several reasons including harsh climatic conditions and several biotic factors. Replacement of such casualties is an integral part of care and maintenance of plantations as per the established practices. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways take steps for proper care and maintenance of such plantation along the National Highways and also promotes involvement of NGOs and local communities in under its Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification & Maintenance) Policy-2015. |
