(a) whether the Government is aware that the regional centres of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) in Bengaluru and Guwahati have provided local scholars with the necessary infrastructure and resources to conduct research, thus promoting regional historical and cultural research; (b) if so, whether the Ministry would consider replicating this model by providing financial assistance to State Governments including the State Government of Kerala to open new regional centres of the ICHR to promote local historical and cultural research; (c) if so, the details thereof; and (d) if not, the reasons therefor? |

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR) (a) Yes Madam. Regional Centres of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) at Bengaluru and Guwahati maintains specialized libraries of historical records to assist the Post-Graduate students & Research scholars in history, Indology & Culture. Among other activities, the centres conduct seminars/workshops, etc. to disseminate historical knowledge in their respective regions and also undertake Research Projects. (b) to (d) Regional Centres of ICHR are directly funded by ICHR and no financial assistance is given to State Governments. There is no proposal to set up any new Regional Centre of ICHR in any State including the state of Kerala. |
