Quality healthcare can only be provided through quality medical institutions. Hospitals equipped with state-of-art infrastructure and enhanced facilities can alone provide improved and affordable healthcare services to the masses.

          The Government, in 2015, had promised to establish an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala to promote medical research, encourage information dissemination and provide affordable healthcare to residents of Kerala and of the neighbouring districts in Tamil Nadu.  This would also provide excellent higher education opportunities in medicine and jobs to young medical professionals.

          Kerala has finalized the required logistics and identified suitable locations to establish this institution, including a location in the rural areas of Thiruvananthapuram. However, the Central Government has not made the required financial allocation for the purpose.

          I, therefore, urge the Government to provide financial assistance to Kerala to establish an AIIMS in Thiruvananthapuram.
