Members of the House made a submission regarding unlawful and arbitrary verdict of Pakistan Military Court imposing death sentence on former naval officer.
11/April/2017

Thank you very much, Madam. I will keep it very short.

I obviously associate myself strongly with what all our colleagues have said and I would not repeat those points but I have one additional point. The unity of this House and the unity of this country must be translated internationally. The fact is that we prefer not to internationalise our problems with Pakistan but this is one time when what Pakistan is doing is not only an assault on India; it is also an assault on the bonds of international law and international conventions that affect everybody.

There are certain countries that finance and arm the Pakistani military. Those countries must be told by us that if this could be done to an Indian today, it can be done to one of their nationals tomorrow. The extremely important thing for us is to uphold the principles. This gentleman was denied consular access which is a basic right thirteen times. The Geneva Conventions have been violated by Pakistan if they had done this under laws of war even though we are not at war with Pakistan.

This is an extremely serious matter of global resonance. I hope that we will convey our support to the Government as well as urge the Government to take this up in world forums as well.

          Thank you, Madam Speaker.
