Development of stations under PPP

Will the Minister of



RAILWAYS be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Railways is aware that Trivandrum Central (TVC) Railway Station, the largest and busiest station in the State of Kerala, is in need of urgent budgetary and administrative support to complete ongoing development works;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Railways in this regard;

(c) whether the Railways proposes to include more Railway Stations including TVC for development under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode using Foreign Direct Investment (FDI); and

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO.313 BY DR. SHASHI THAROOR TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 07.12.2016 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF STATIONS UNDER PPP

(a) to (d): Augmentation/improvement of passenger amenities and execution of development works at stations on Indian Railways including Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station is an ongoing process and its carried out as per need and availability of funds. Various modern facilities such as Food Plaza, Electronic Train Indication Board, Coach Indicating System, Touch Screen Enquiry System and Passenger Guidance System etc. have been provided at Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station. The station has already been developed under Adarsh Station Scheme. The station is also identified for joint development in association with Ministry of Tourism under which facilities like improvement to circulating area, improved parking facilities and landscaping etc. have been provided and provision of various other facilities such as improvement of waiting and retiring rooms, executive lounge, booking and enquiry office, provision of facilities for differently abled passengers and individual lock and key arrangement in the cloak room etc. have been taken up. Adequate funds have been provided to Southern Railway (which covers Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station) under Plan Head “Passenger Amenities” from which the sanctioned passenger amenities works at the stations are funded.

Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station is also one of the stations identified to be offered for redevelopment on “as is where is” basis by inviting open bids from interested parties with their designs and business ideas under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
