ANSWER

MINISTER OF STATE (RAO INDERJIT SINGH) IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) & (b): There is no separate scheme to provide employment exclusively to wards / dependants of war widows / martyrs. However, there is a scheme to provide employment on compassionate grounds, to the dependants of Government servants, including service personnel, who died in harness / medically Boarded Out / missing, subject to availability of vacancies. Under this scheme, wards / dependants of war widows / martyrs are also considered along with others.

Under the Unit Headquarter Quota (UHQ) Scheme of the Army Headquarters, 20% of the total recruitment vacancies are earmarked for wards / dependants of serving / retired soldiers including war widows. No specific data is maintained in respect of providing

employment to dependants of martyrs. However, the total number of dependants who have been provided employment under the above mentioned schemes by the Armed Forces, during the last three years and the current year are as follows:-
Sl. No. Year No. of dependents granted employments
1. 2011 62
2. 2012 47
3. 2013 63
4. 2014 54
(till date)
Total 226

(c) & (d): As personnel recruited by the Armed Forces are required to discharge duties pertaining to national security, there is no relaxation in educational qualification.
