ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:-




(a) whether the Government is aware that the State of Kerala is facing public resistance over acquisition of land around temples and religious places for the cons- truction of National Highway; 

(b) if so, the details thereof along with action taken thereon; 

(c) whether the Government is aware that contractors have collected toll tax more than the norms fixed in this regard in Kerala; if so, the details thereof; and 

(d) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?


ANSWER


THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI PON. RADHAKRISHANAN) 

(a) and (b) Yes, Madam. National Highways Development Projects 

(NHDP) on NH 17 and NH 47 in the State of Kerala have been withdrawn due to public resistance and extremely slow pace of land acquisition. Govt. of Kerala have now agreed to acquire minimum land width of 45m Right of Way (ROW) essential for safety of traffic and for upgradation of these National Highways to four lane standard and to render all assistance for land acquisition. 

(c) and (d) The toll tax on National Highways (NHs) is being collected at the specified rates in the Gazette Notification published by this Ministry.
