Will the Minister of Communications & Information Technology be pleased to state:

(a) the current status of the draft policy on Internet of Things(IoT) initiated by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. 
(b) whether the Minister has consulted various stakeholders for framing the policy on IoT;
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the proposed deadline for implementing the policy;
(d) whether the Government is likely to give preference to start ups and new companies under the policy on IoT to create a USD 15 billion industry by 2020; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e): The draft Internet of Things (IoT) policy was formulated in consultation with relevant stakeholders. Thereafter the draft policy was put up for public comments. Standing Finance Committee(SFC) memorandum has been prepared seeking approval of the proposals envisaged in the draft policy and the same is under consideration of the Government.

One of the projects envisaged under the draft policy was setting up of Centre of Excellence for IoT. The Centre has been approved to be set up in PPP mode by NASSCOM and ERNET India. The said Centre was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on July 1, 2015 during the launch of Digital India Week. The Centre will, interalia, encourage start ups in the field of IoT. The objectives of the CoE for IoT include:-

• To build industry capable talent, start-up community and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
• To provide an ecosystem for innovation to thrive and embrace entrepreneurship.
• To energise Research mind-set and reduce costs in Research and Development by providing neutral and interoperable, multi- technology stack laboratory facilities.
