Will the Minister of



ENVIRONMENT, FORESTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:-


(a) whether the Government has taken note of the observations of the Supreme Court on parading of elephants in religious ceremonies and festivals in the state of Kerala;
(b) if so, whether a Bill to regulate the engagement of elephants in religious ceremonies and festivals is likely to be introduced;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether reasonable provisions to protect elephants without hurting the religious sentiments of the people of Kerala would be incorporated in the said Bill; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a)Yes Sir, the Government is aware of observations of the Hon’ble Supreme Court on parading of elephants in religious ceremonies and festivals in the State of Kerala.

(b)&(c) At present there is no proposal to introduce a new legislation to regulate the 
engagement of elephants in religious ceremonies and festivals.

(d)& (e) The question does not arise.
