Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has urged the States/Union Territories to set up an exclusive City Infrastructure Fund to provide financial assistance to promote infrastructure in cities and if so, the details thereof:

(b) whether the Government proposes to provide financial assistance to the States/Union Territories to constitute the said Fund;

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) whether the Government proposes to encourage States/Union Territories to build well-drained and flood resistant cities by using the above fund; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?


ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO)

(a) to (e): No, Madam. However, the Government of India has launched a new Mission ‘Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT)’ on 25th June 2015 for development of basic infrastructure such as water supply, sewerage, septage, storm water drainage, urban transport and development of green space and parks with special provision for children-friendly components in 500 cities/ towns across the country. The construction and improvement of drains and storm water drains to reduce and eliminate flooding is an eligible component under the Mission. The Mission is being operated as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) with total projected outlay of Rs. 50,000 crore during the Mission period of 2015-16 to 2019-20.
